Bob (Guitar and Vocals)
Bob has played music since he was able to hold a pair of drum sticks. He studied drums for six years and played for the band Storm Troopers during his high school years in the late 70's. Bob picked up a guitar and played for the Big Head Band in the 80's. He met his wife, had three children and put performing on the back burner. Music never really left his heart and in 2004, he started the South on 65 Band. He has been playing on a regular basis ever since. Bob is inspired by many music influences, mostly southern rock, rock n' roll, and country.
Patti (Vocals)
Patti began singing with the South on 65 Band right from the beginning. She has a strong, solid voice that works well with many kinds of songs. Patti's music influences are Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond. She is able to work with a variety of musicians, and teaches the "ropes" to all the newer singers in the band.
Joe (Bongo Drums and Vocals)
Joe sings lead and backup vocals, and plays bongo drums for South on 65 Band. He has been with the band for over four years. Joe's biggest music influences were in the early '70's, including Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Steve Miller Band, the Moody Blues and Paul McCartney. Joe has been performing in the Pittsburgh area since 1999. He has played out with Buddha's Other Mothers and Double Trouble.
Kenny (Drums and Latin Percussion)
Kenny plays drums and Latin percussion for
the band. He has been playing drums since 1981. His love of
drumming started when he learned rudimentary drumming by playing snare
drum for a local drum and baton corp. A year or two later after
receiving the "greatest gift ever", his first drum set, he learned to
play by taking lessons, but mostly by playing and practicing to recorded
music. He enjoys listening to and playing many types of music
including: classic rock, progressive rock, southern rock, blues, pop,
60's, 70's, and 80's music. He has played out and recorded with a
several bands over the years including: Hint of Insurgence (original music), Powers Run (roll n' roll, southern rock, blues, and original music), and Six O'clock Dog (original music). He is happy to be out of the basement and playing to live audiences once again.
Dean (Bass Guitar)
Dean
plays bass for the band. He has been playing bass too long to
remember. He started playing bass because there weren’t any bassists
around, so he gave up his guitars and hasn’t looked back. He enjoys
listening to and playing many types of music including: classic and
progressive rock, outlaw country, edgy alternative, and classic blues.
He has been with several bands over the years including: The Vicious
Circle (1991 Graffiti Rock Challenge Semifinalist), The Living Rooms
(Original), No Flash (60’s Dance), The Mulekickers (God’s Music -
Country), 5 Mile Radius (70’s Rock), and Busted Blue (Edgy Blues). A
dance floor full of people make him happy.
Doreen (Keyboard, Guitar, and Vocals)
Doreen plays keyboard and rhythm guitar, and performs backup vocals for the South on
65 Band. She has been playing piano since the age of eight and by nine
was introduced to the guitar. Doreen began performing folk music in a
solo act in a hotel lounge during high school. She continued with folk music and joined a jazz
band in college. She toured and recorded with a rock group writing and
performing original music in Israel when she lived there in 1981-1983. She
put music aside to have children, but began performing again in 2001 in
bands, including a folk duo, MidLife Crisis 2; The Basements (classic rock and roll); Headstock (Indie rock); and That's What She Said Trio - TWSS Trio (Indie).
